Dr. Jennifer Luebeck STREAM Project Principal Investigator
Jennifer Luebeck is an associate professor of mathematics education in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Montana State University. She teaches a variety of mathematics content and methods courses for prospective K-12 teachers, and coordinates an innovative online masters program for practicing secondary teachers. For two decades she has designed and delivered grant-funded professional development and outreach programs for K–12 mathematics teachers across the Mountain West. Her primary research interests center round effective professional development for mathematics teachers, with an emphasis on distance learning and other models to support rural mathematics teachers across Montana.
Dr. Matt Roscoe STREAM PROJECT CO-INVESTIGATOR
Matt Roscoe is an assistant professor of mathematics education in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Montana. He teaches mathematics content and pedagogy courses for prospective K-12 teachers. He also teaches courses aimed at practicing teachers pursuing UM’s Masters of Arts in Teaching Middle School Math. He regularly provides professional development opportunities for Montana math teachers through Montana Math Teachers’ Circle, the Montana Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM), Montana Math Meet (M Cubed) and the MEA/MFT State Educators’ Conference. His research interests focus on the creation and implementation of activities that increase students’ opportunities to investigate, create and discover mathematics.
Dr. Georgia Cobbs STREAM Project Co-Investigator
Georgia Cobbs is a Professor at the University of Montana where she teaches two elementary mathematics methods courses (PK-4 and 5-8). In these courses, she demonstrates how to integrate mathematics and real world applications with other subjects in the classroom. Georgia has provided in-service professional development across Montana in both F2F, blended and completely on-line formats. Georgia’s teaching focuses on inquiry, problem-solving techniques using manipulatives, and appropriate use of technology in the classroom. Her research interests include the integration of mathematics and science and teaching mathematics using best practices.
Lisa Scott STREAM Project Manager
Lisa Scott holds a Master of Science degree in Mathematics Education and K-12 Principal Endorsement from Montana State University. She has served as Curriculum and Assessment Director and Mathematics Coach for Billings Public Schools. She also taught high school and middle school mathematics for over ten years in Billings and Joliet. Lisa is currently a middle school mathematics teacher for Billings Public Schools, the STREAM Project Manager and a private mathematics education consultant. She has provided professional development in mathematics, assessment and other topics to educators in Montana and nationally over the past twenty years. Lisa served as President of the Montana Council of Teachers of Mathematics and on the Affiliate Services Committee of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. She is currently on the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics board as a Leadership Academy and Fall Seminar Director. Lisa earned the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching in 2002.
Rose Shaw STREAM External Evaluator
STREAM evaluation is carried out by Dr. Rose Shaw, an independent professional evaluator who has externally evaluated over 75 projects in 17 states with extensive expertise assessing and evaluating demonstrable impacts and achievements both qualitatively and quantitatively. She holds a Ph.D. in Applied Statistics and an M.S. in Mathematics. Dr. Shaw has evaluated a variety of implementation, development and research projects funded by the NIH, NSF, USDA, NASA and USDE (including federal formula state grants). She has evaluated projects addressing STEM education, social ecological systems, climate change, modeling and simulation, ecology, reading, learning progressions, English as a second language, distance learning, and more. Her work has also conducted job task analyses and systems efficiency studies as well as consulting in statistics, psychometrics and research design.
